Visualization Wall Grand Opening
On Feb. 8, 2008, the Center for Scientific Visualization opened in Anderson Hall. The interdisciplinary Center was made possible by a $350,000 grant from the National Science Foundation through the support of the School of Engineering, Arts and Sciences, and University Information Technology and with collaboration of Tufts investigators like math's Bruce Boghosian (pictured below).
Caroline Cao, assistant professor of mechanical engineering, and Kyle Maxwell, (CS'08), use the Center to create effective surgical simulations that use visualization in conjunction with haptics, the study of touch, to incorporate tactile force feedback. Visualize new surgery sim here

Lautze Dams Malaria in Ethiopia
Jonathan Lautze, a WSSS doctoral recipient, researches how to curb the transmission of malaria through water resource engineering and management. By controlling a dam's reservoir water levels, the development of malaria-carrying mosquito larvae can be disrupted. Read more about malaria and water management
